HIGHER SCHOOLS COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE FACTORS

Abstract

In global market competitiveness of higher education is associated with educational institutions managers’ ability to maintain their own position and react operatively towards economic and political changes, fluctuating demand of studies and scientific services. Managers must be able to make suitable decisions, take more risks and choose an appropriate strategy. It is important not only to protect a competitive advantage but to maintain it as well. The Quality Board serves for this purpose; it tries to achieve continuous improvement of organizations, involvement of employees, customers, shareholders, society in quality improvement processes, thereby fully satisfying demands of external and internal customers’ needs. Main higher school competitive advantages determinants are innovations, technologies, quality and price of studies. Managers all the time should observe competitors, react to innovations implemented by the other higher schools and make decisions emphasizing competitive advantage of the institutions they manage. Performed analysis of scientific literature allows affirming that competitiveness of the educational institutions is not settled by tangible asset but by intangible one: reputation, image, organizational culture, knowledge, competences, skills and experience, knowledge emitting tutors, demanded specializations on offer, loyalty of staff and students, etc. Giventhat one of thegoalsof higher education – the development of competitiveness, the article examines what factors determine high schools competitiveness and gives recommendations for further research.
