Historical Memory as a Factor in the Formation of Modern Ukrainian Nation

Abstract

The article studies the essence and characterizes the functional potential of historical memory as a factor in the formation of modern Ukrainian nation and Ukrainians' national identity. It proves the necessity of systematic policy of memory at the national and regional levels aimed at the release of the vast array of imperial and Soviet stereotypes in the perception of the history, aimed at achieving the integrity of the historical memory of the Ukrainian nation, at overcoming the polarity and controversiality in assessments of the historical past.
