Abstract

Purpose. The article is dedicated to the history of the trade union organization of Stalin Pedagogical Institute in 1930–1940 years. Based on archival materials, the article discusses the role of the trade union organization in the activities of the insti-tute. Approach. The study is based on the documents of the party and trade union meetings, which are kept in the archive of Donetsk National University named after Stus. Findings. The result of the conducted study is the determination of the role of the trade union organization in the activities of the institute. The author examines the role of public organizations in the history of the institute. The article characterizes financial situation of the students and lecturers in the years 1930–1940. The study involves the process of formation of the staff of educational institution, including the repression of teachers and student leaders of the trade union committee. Research implications. The study of this issue reveals new pages of history of Stalin pedagogical institute – the predecessor of Donetsk National University named after Stus. Value. The study has practical value in terms of experience of organization of the new institute. In 1941 Stalin Pedagogical Institute had to be evacuated because of the military operations and returned after their end.
