Journal Title: Слов’янський збірник - Year 2015, Vol 0, Issue 19

Abstract

The study of the functioning of horonyms in Alexander Pushkin’s cultural heritage is presented in the article. Composition, semantics, structure and methods of presentation of horonyms are defined. Personal parameter of onym characteristics is displayed in Alexander Pushkin’s linguistic picture of the world. Depending on the specificity of the designated objects, administrative, urban and natural horonyms are used. It is revealed that in Alexander Pushkin’s works both real horonyms and fictional – mythonyms – are used. The poet uses full and brief topographical names. It is shown that in Alexander Pushkin’s cultural heritage multiaspect characterizations of the horonyms are widely represented: spatiallyspecifying, nominatively-interpreted and attributively-characterizing. In Alexander Pushkin’s works the horonyms are used in paradigms. It is established that in a literary text horonyms apart from the main language functions (nominative, differentiating and communicative) perform informative-stylistic and emotional stylistic ones. Emotional and stylistic functions of the horonyms are manifested through their isolated functioning in the poet’s works but at the same time are accompanied by epithets, applications, metaphoric, metonymic forms are also used. Our material shows that horonyms that name large, functional and historically significant topographic objects are the core of Alexander Pushkin’s onomastic world picture. Less frequent horonyms are also important: the collection of all toponyms form the idea of spatial continuum of Alexander Pushkin’s cultural heritage. It is proved that the horonyms in Alexander Pushkin’s works are enriched by poetic connotations and become the author’s vision of the world, a reflection of the author’s individual world picture. They provide information on the denotations and simultaneously transmit axiological components, expressing the author’s and the characters’ feelings, to the depicted object.
