Hybrid sorbents in metal ions removal from water and wastewater

Journal Title: CHEMIK nauka-technika-rynek - Year 2012, Vol 66, Issue 11

Abstract

The possibility of hybryd ion exchangers (HIX) application in the removal of heavy metal ions was presented. They combine the unique properties of hydrated metal oxides with the mechanical and thermal stability of synthetic ion exchangers. In the investigations the commercial ion exchangers Lewatit FO36 and Purolite Arsen Xnp were used. The kinetics of the sorption process of Cu(II) and Zn(II) in the presence of IDS (iminodisuccinic acid) as well as As(V) and Cr(VI) was analyzed. Additionally the effect of the initial concentration, the phase contact time, pH and temperature was also studied. To describe the sorption, the equation of the pseudo first order (PF-order) and pseudo second order (PS-order) were applied. Taking into account the possibility of applying these ions on the large scale the parameters of the adsorption process were estimated based on the linear form of the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushevish isotherms
