Identifying Institutional and Environmental Determinants of University Technology Transfer in Biotechnology
Journal Title: Roshd-e-Fanavari - Year 2011, Vol 7, Issue 28
Abstract
"Technology transfer is one of the important and fundamental issues that can lead to technology promotion and moving toward sustainable development. Technology Transfer is a practical usage of academic researches, to transfer ideas and researches into technology or products. This process needs cooperation of more than one party. In technology transfer one side is researchers and academic body that have new ideas and the other side is industry that makes profit. Due to the rapid growth of new technology, and its importance in terms of welfare and economic growth, ignoring technology transfer may cause recession. Using academic ideas, transferring them and doing researches on industry is called Technology Transfer. Biotechnology industry, with a wide range of applications, allocates large part of the global market to itself. We select this industry regarding the importance and increasing growth of biotechnology. We are going to identify institutional and environmental determinants of university technology transfer. Institutional factors are those which firm can control them and are surrounded by firm. But environmental factors are those which can affect the firm and can't be controlled by the firm. Then by using eclectic method we are able to identify some variables. In qualitative part by using interview, we recognize some variables, and then we distribute 60 questionnaires among biotech researchers. Consequently, we settle institutional and environmental factors, and clarify that institutional factors are more significant than environmental ones."
