Idiomatic Social Research as a Methodological Challenge
Journal Title: Theory and Practice of Social Systems Management - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 2
Abstract
Adequacy, idiomaticity, synergy, and emergence are basic ideas of the humanities and the scientific foundations of qualitative research. The author shows how an idiomaticity of the subject of study and its contexts, research approach, researcher and research subjects along with colleagues and proper data representation can lead to an intensified and deaper understanding of human and social phenomena in qualitative inquiry. His article is an appeal to quantitative and qualitative researchers regarding the possibilities of common debate on the methodological challenge of idiomaticity, especially in contemporary social research. He compares idiomatic and non-idiomatic research conducted in the field of social sciences, presenting and critically interpreting an example of a positivistic approach used in the social psychology of love.
