Illocutionary types of verbal empathy in the English juvenile fantasy prose

Abstract
The article addresses verbal empathy within the perspective of speech act approach. The determination of illocutionary types of verbal empathy in the English juvenile fantasy prose helped to single out speech acts verbalizing empathically marked and unmarked concepts (UNDERSTANDING, COMPASSION, PITY etc.). Such illocutionary types are the speech acts of psychological support: understanding, consolation, cheering, excusing. They belong to the class of expressive speech acts and are aimed at changing the addressee’s psychological state.
