Journal Title: Мова - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 21
Abstract
This article deals with the peculiarities of phytonyms in the Russian language. The semantics of phytonyms has an important place in modern lingual & cultural Russian language community. Russian writers and poets devote a special role to the development of floral themes (A. A. Fet, I. S. Turgenev, A. Akhmatova, and others). It is necessary to know the «language of flowers», their symbolic meaning, symbolic overtones for understanding the deep meaning of the work. The established connotative semes allow to formulate the floral motif of the poets’ and the writers’ styles. Lilac is the symbol of Russian villa. In the Russian language and culture there exists such superstition: love will be eternal if lilac is planted near the house. In the East lilac is a symbol of sad departure, which influences the connotative structure of Sergei Esenin’s and Anna Akhmatova’s style. The memories about spring and the wonderful month of May are connected with lilac. When a nature wakes up from winter dreams, it gets dressed in fresh green and coulorful flowers which symbolize a life. The violet has also a great culturology significance in Russian linguistic consciousness. Contexts of works confirm in giving the violet the symbol of modesty. The set of connotative semes is capable of forming different floral motifs in poets’ and writers’ idiostyles.
