IMPACT DE LA POLLUTION URBAINE SUR LA CONTAMINATION PAR LES NITRATES ET LES NITRITES DE LA NAPPE PHREATIQUE DE MARTIL (MAROC)

Abstract
The urban district of Martil in northwest of Morocco has expensed greatly in the last decade 2003/2012, and the numerous large infrastructure projects are underway. Wastewaters of the city are collected and partially discharged into nature. The river of Oued Martil, bordering the city is considered receptacle of all sewerage and industrial of Tetouan city. The river worsen the problem of groundwater pollution in the region. To assess the impact of urban pollution on contamination by nitrates and nitrites in the groundwater of Martil district, a study was conducted during one year (2010/2011). 15 wells were selected for the analysis of nitrates and nitrites bimonthly by spectrophotometry. Of the 90 analysis on nitrate concentrations, 20% exceed the concentration standard of 50 mg/L and 28.88% of the samples are in the critical threshold between 40 and 50 mg / l. The results ranged from 2.39 mg / l to 56.88 mg / l. In case of nitrite concentrations, they were between 0.001 mg and 4.574 mg/L. Of the 90 samples analyzed, 16.66% were higher than the concentration of the standard Moroccan which is 0.5 mg/L. The study did not reveal any significant influence of seasonality on the concentrations of nitrates and nitrites in the studied area.
