Impact of Gender and Age Factors on the Correlation of Pituitary-Thyroid Hormones in Patients with Autoimmune Thyroiditis
Journal Title: Міжнародний ендокринологічний журнал - Year 2014, Vol 8, Issue 64
Abstract
In 292 patients with autoimmune thyroiditis, indicators of thyroid homeostasis were studied by levels of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), T3, T4, FT4, as well as their ratio in groups of men and women under the age of 50 years and 50 years and older. It was found that correlations between hormones within the pituitary-thyroid axis have gender and age peculiarities. In men with age there is a significant increase in the ratio of TSH/T4 and TSH/T3, which may indicate a decrease in the thyrotroph sensitivity. Women found to have decreased levels of active forms of thyroid hormones (T3 and FT4) with age as evidenced by an increase in the ratio of T4/T3 and T4/FT4.
