IMPACT OF SELF- HELP MANUAL ON PROMOTION OF RESILIENCE IN DEPRESSIVE PATIENTS ADMITTED IN GOVERNMENT HEAD QUARTERS HOSPITAL AT ERODE, INDIA -A WAIT-LIST CONTROL GROUP

Abstract
Context: It is incorporated readily that self-help manual is an adjunct work of mental health nurse and other professionals in promoting resilience and enhancing recovery in people with moderate depression in the community. The present study aimed to find out the impact of self -help manual on promotion of resilience in depressive patients. Methods: True experimental pre and posttest design was used in this study. Simple purposive sampling technique was used for selecting 50 samples, 25 in experimental group and 25 in wait-list control group. Applied principles of self-help manual techniques and practices comprised of 7 modules rendered in experimental group and later on (Deferred Treatment) in wait-list control group after its statistical significance in experimental group. The tools used for the study were background variables and Connor Davidson resilience scale. Results: Results showed that in experimental group pretest mean resilience scores were 51.4+0.71 and posttest scores were 55.72+0.85 respectively. In wait-list control group pretest mean showed 48.72+0.84 and posttest mean showed 50.56+0.86. The Paired t’ test value of resilience showed statistical significance in experimental group (t=6.61). Whereas wait-list control group showed statistical non significance (t=1.95). Unpaired t’ test value of posttest resilience scores between experimental and wait-list control group was statistically significant (t=4.64). The Paired t’ test value of deferred resilience scores showed statistical significance in wait-list control group (t=4.99). Self-help manual were highly significant to promote resilience among depressive patients
