Impact on the engine power of a wheeled vehicle mechanical losses when the cylinders are disconnected

Abstract

A technique for calculating mechanical losses is proposed, which makes it possible, with an accuracy of about 10 %, to determine the effect of the number of disconnected cylinders on the effective engine power, the power of mechanical losses, and the mechanical efficiency. It has been established that when half of the cylinders are disconnected: the rated power is 35–40 %, the difference between the experimental and calculated results of the power loss rate of mechanical losses is not more than 8 %; the difference between the calculated and experimental results of the load factor for power is not more than 5 %; The mechanical efficiency at loading 48 % is increased by 7 %. With the increase in the number of disconnected cylinders in the engine, the power of mechanical losses increases and the mechanical efficiency decreases. The correlation between mechanical efficiency and effective engine power is established: with an increase in the number of disconnected cylinders (a factor feature) in the engine, the power of mechanical losses (the resultant attribute) increases and the mechanical efficiency decreases.
