Improvement of Transmittance Characteristics of 1D Photonic Crystal with Optical Gain Factor under Oblique Incidence for Different Materials
Journal Title: International Journal of Electronics Communication and Computer Technology - Year 2014, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
Transmittance of one-dimensional photonic crystal is numerically computed for oblique incidence of electromagnetic wave considering the effect of optical gain factor. Transfer matrix technique is used for calculation, which is carried out for conventional material composition as well as wide-bandgap semiconductor heterostructure. Adachi’s model is incorporated to consider the effect of material parameters and operating wavelength on refractive indices of the constituents. 1.55 µm wavelength is taken as the centre of the passband for the purpose of optical communication. Results suggest that the heterostructure can provide better optical bandpass filter for suitable choice of structural parameters. Transmittivity can be increased by adding the effect of gain factor, and the profile become asymmetric for both p and s-type of polarizations.
