Improving GDOP inPseudolite only Navigation System using Genetic Algorithm

Abstract

Position fix accuracy of Pseudolite only navigation system [1] mainly depends upon minimum achievable GDOP (Geometrical Dilution of precision) by suitable placement of Transmitters. The suitable placement of transmitters can be obtained by optimizing the transmitters' positions in a given operational volume to get minimum GDOP. Conventional exhaustive search methods do not provide cost effective solution in terms of computing time and resources to give minimum GDOP when search volume is large. In this paper biologically inspired computing approach such as Genetic Algorithm based optimization is proposed for obtaining optimum positions of Pseudolite transmitters to get minimum GDOP in given operational user volume. The proposed approach is compared with conventional exhaustive search technique by considering a typical user operational volume.
