Improving Treatment of Giardiasis

Journal Title: Актуальна інфектологія - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 8

Abstract

Giardiasis is one of the most common parasitic diseases in both children and adults, and is revealed in all countries of the world. Despite the wide range of etiotropic drugs, there remains a need to improve the treatment. The objective of therapy is not only the eradication of the pathogen, but also the elimination of the consequences of its presence in the body. When choosing etiotropic drug for the treatment of giardiasis there has been considered not only the antiparasitic efficacy of Macmiror (nifuratel), but also the safety and good tolerability. The spectrum of antibacterial activity of nifuratel: — protozoa: Lamblia intestinalis, Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica; — pathogenic fungi: Candida albicans, Microsporum spp., Trichophyton spp.; — bacteria: – Gram-negative: E.coli, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Proteus spp., Klebsiella spp., Vibrio cholerae; – Gram-positive: Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Helicobacter pylori. The ability of Macmiror to be eliminated by the kidneys almost completely, without involvement of the liver detoxification reserves, is equally important. An examination of the state of eubiosis in children receiving Macmiror has shown a positive effect of the drug on the intestinal microflora. Based on the individual results of the study and review of the literature data, it was found that Macmiror is one of the most effective and safe drug in the treatment of giardiasis.
