In vitro selection of Ustilago scitaminea Syd on embryogenic sugarcane calli
Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2002, Vol 2, Issue 4
Abstract
To increase the efficiency of the in vitro selection methodology to the smut of the sugar cane embryogenesis calli were obtained from the genotypes Ja 60-5, IBP 85-23 (susceptible) and B 43-62 (resistant). They were exposed to different concentrations of filtrate culture of U. scitaminea Syd (0, 75, 87 y 95 ml.l-1). The increase of the affectation in the growth of the calli with the increase of the filtrate culture concentration was observed. In all concentrations the damages were significatively lesser in the resistant control. Ja 60-5 showed a similar expression at the two greatest concentrations. Whereas the IBP 85-23 presented a significatively superior affectation at 95 ml.l-1 concentration of filtrate culture. These results indicated that a correspondence between the reaction to the filtrate culture and the grade of resistance to the disease in the field conditions.
