In vivo and in vitroevaluation of the Acrocomia aculeatapulp oil - lipid profile and oxidative stress
Journal Title: JOURNAL OF ADVANCES IN BIOLOGY - Year 2015, Vol 8, Issue 3
Abstract
Acrocomia aculeata is a plant species with high levels of antioxidant compounds, rich in carotenoids with high bioavailability and monounsaturated fatty acids. This study was designed to investigate the biological effect of Acrocomia aculeata pulp oil (AaPO) on body weight, epididymal adipose tissue mass, liver weight and blood analytes of high-fat-diet-induced obeseC57BL/6j mice.In addition, the antioxidant properties of AaPO were evaluated against the iron sulfate (FeSO4)-induced oxidativedamage to rat brain synaptosomes. Obese mice receiving oral gavage with AaPO showed a significant decrease in body weight, adipose tissue weight, plasma triacylglycerol and aspartate aminotransferase. Histological analysis showed that AaPO attenuated high-fat-diet-induced liver injury decreasing hepatic steatosis and adipocyte hyperplasia. In addition, the in vitro assays showed that AaPOprevented the FeSO4-induced oxidative damage in synaptosomal fractions. Results from this study suggest that AaPO can reduce body weight, plasma triacylglycerol, adipose tissue and oxidative stress.

Biological Synthesis of Nanoparticles using bacteria
Several ways such as physical, chemical and biological methods were used to synthesize metal nanoparticles. It has been confirmed that some microorganisms have the ability to produce nanoparticles. Numerous bacteria, fun...
Effects of Urea and Imazethapyr on Orobanche Crenata germination, Radicle extension, Incidence and Faba Bean Growth and Yield
Orobanche crenata Forsk., a debilitating root parasitic weed, has become an important constraint to production of cool season legumes in Sudan. The present investigation was undertaken to determine the effects of urea, t...
Isolation and Characterization of Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons Degrading Bacteria from Compost Leachate
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs) degrading bacteria were isolated from compost leachate (CL) that collected from a composting site located in central Scotland, UK. Isolation was carried out by enrichment using phen...
Identification of Pathways Associated With Endothelial Dysfunction in Obesity
Obesity has become an increasingly serious health problem and a widespread social focus. It is associated with many diseases, including cardiovascular disease through the induction of endothelial dysfunction. The aim of...
Augmentation of drought stress tolerance of two wheat cultivars through exogenous spraying of silicon
Two wheat cultivars cv. Sohag 3 (durum wheat) and cv. Seds 12 (bread wheat) were tested to assess their physiological behavior under different water regimes (100%, 70%, 50% and 30% FC) and their responsiveness to foliar...
