Indoor Fingerprint Localization Method Using Channel State Information

Abstract

Received signal strength indicator ( RSSI) is always used to generate fingerprint in conventional indoor fingerprint positioning technology. However, RSSI is vulnerable to environmental changing, and the positioning accuracy cannot be further improved. Therefore, a fingerprint localization method based on channel state information ( CSI) was proposed. The proposed fingerprint localization method took full advantage of frequency diversity and spatial diversity of multiple-input multiple-output ( MIMO) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing ( OFDM) . The signals were aggregated by receiving antenna unit, and the amplitude and phase information of the processed CSI subcarriers were used as position fingerrints. The factors of affect positioning accuracy were analyzed in the conference room and the laboratory. The proposed location method were compared with one RSSI-based and two CSI-based fingerprint location methods. The experimental results showed that the positioning error of the proposed location method in the conference room and the laboratory is0. 85 m and 1. 28 m, respectively, which is better than the other three methods.
