INFLUENCE OF GRAIN SIZE ON DUCTILITY OF MAGNESIUM ALLOYS
Journal Title: Materials Engineering - Materialove inzinierstvo (MEMI) - Year 2011, Vol 18, Issue 3
Abstract
The paper give a brief overview on the effect of grain size on the yield strength and the elongation to fracture (ductility) of magnesium alloys. The yield stress, flow stress and fracture stress decrese with decreasing grain size. Few investigations has been devoted to studying the dependence of ductlity on the grain size. No explanation of the reported results was given in the literature. We tried to give an empirical model describing ductility of Mg alloys on grain size. It is shown that the elonation to failure increases with inverse square root of grain size. The dependence is accounted for by the activity of non-basal slip systems.

Corrostion resistance of the welded AISI 316L after various surface treatments
The main aim of this work is to monitor the surface treatment impact on the corrosion resistance of the welded stainless steel AISI 316L to local corrosion forms. The excellent corrosion resistance of austenitic st...
EVALUATION OF MICROSTRUCTURAL STABILITY OF DISSIMILAR WELD JOINTS
The microstructural changes occurring in the weld joint P92/316Ti during his long-term exposure at high temperature were studied. In parallel to experiments were carried out calculations of phase equilibria for the base...
DETERMINATION OF STATIC LIMITING LOAD CURVES FOR SLEWING BEARING WITH APPLICATION OF THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD
In slewing bearings, a great number of contact pairs are present on the contact surfaces between the rolling elements and raceways of the bearing. Computations to determine the load of the individual rolling elements, ta...
Influence of the surface finishing on electrochemical corrosion characteristics of AISI 316L stainless steel
Stainless steels from 316 group are very often and successfully uses for medical applications where the good mechanical and chemical properties in combination with non-toxicity of the material assure its safe and long te...
Sub-zero Treatment of P/M Vanadis 6 Ledeburitic Tool Steel
The Cr-V ledeburitic steel Vanadis 6 was vacuum austenitized at different temperatures, nitrogen gas quenched and double tempered at 530 °C for 2 h. For the selected samples, a sub-zero period was inserted between quench...
