INFLUENCE OF THE DRILLING PROCESS PARAMETERS ON THE QUALITY AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF DRILLING HOLES IN CARBON COMPOSITES

Abstract

This article analyses the impact of drilling process parameters on the quality of drilling holes and their bearing strength. Review of the literature was made to get information about composites drilling using various tools and process parameters. Research has been done with MTM44-1 material using CORODRILL 452.1-0635-044A0-C H10 drill (6.35 mm diameter) with two different speeds of the spindle: 500 rpm and 3000 rpm. After drilling the temperature of the drill was measured using thermocouple. Quality of the holes was checked in a microscopic observation. Specimens was tested for resistance to pressure according to ASTM 5961 standard. During the test maximum force was recorded and bearing strength of the specimen was calculated. The article presents a summary of the results and analyzed them in term of impact of drilling parameters on the machanical properties of the specimens<br/><br/>
