Inlay-retained zirconia fixed partial dentures – the literature review.
Journal Title: Prosthodontics - Year 2015, Vol 65, Issue 1
Abstract
Every single missing tooth needs prosthetic reconstruction in view of rehabilitation and prevention of disorders in the stomatognathic system. Such situations present several reconstructive treatment modalities. When implant placement is not possible or not indicated and when adjacent teeth have been previously restored, inlay-retained bridges with zirconia framework may be recommended in particular. Inlay-retained fixed partial dentures (IRFPD) based on adhesive approach are regarded as minimum invasive and aesthetic solution. Preservation of healthy tooth structure and parodontium makes IRFPR a good alternative to a full-coverage fixed dentures. The indications and contraindications, as well as clinical procedures (preparation design and cementation) for making all-ceramic, inlay supported fixed partial dentures were presented on the basis of the literature. Further, long-term clinical observations are needed to confirm the effectiveness of this minimum invasive approach in prosthetic treatment.
