INSTITUTE OF LOCAL REFERENDUM: FOREIGN COUNTRIES EXPERIENCE, PROSPECTS FOR UKRAINE

Abstract
The article explores the legal regulation of the institute of local referendum in Ukraine after gaining independence and proclaiming a course for formation of a democratic state. The existing legal basis, as well as some issues of legislative work regarding modernization of the local referendum legal regulation, are analyzed. The experience of foreign countries on the legal regulation of this institution is noted, the conclusion about the priority of the latter among the forms of local democracy and its significance for the development of civil society is made. some problems of the subject and territory of the local referendum are indicated.
