Intellectual property protection in the Council of Europe law

Abstract
The article analyzes the provisions of Council of Europe documents concerning the protection of intellectual property. The author defines the features of the European approach to the protection of intellectual property in contemporary information society. Council of Europe created a large amount of conventional norms of imperative character, which is complemented by a set of recommended norms and legal principles that form the Council of Europe standards in the field of intellectual property. These standards affect both the development of national legislation of member states and the formation of an international system of intellectual property protection in general. The author expresses the idea about the existence of separate branch of the Council of Europe law – intellectual property law. This provision requires further development and reasoning based on new scientific studies in the field of empirical and theoretical generalizations
