Intestinal obstruction in a Spigelian hernia with a concomitant jejunal diverticulum

Journal Title: Αρχεία Ελληνικής Ιατρικής - Year 2012, Vol 29, Issue 2

Abstract

Spigelian hernia (SH) is a rare type of hernia, usually of limited diameter, which commonly presents complications, including incarceration and strangulation of the major omentum and the small or large bowel. The clinical case refers of a 70 year-old woman with an incarcerated SH and intestinal obstruction and a concomitant jejunal diverticulum, treated successfully by open anterior hernioplasty and resection of the diverticulum. The principal anatomic and clinical features of the SH, its possible complications, the diagnostic difficulties and the current relevant radiological and therapeutic procedures are discussed, according to the recent international bibliography.
