INTRAPRENEURSHIP AND TRANSACTIONAL-TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP IN BUSINESSES: A CASE STUDY IN KARAMAN

Abstract

Intrapreneurship gains more and more importance in enabling businesses, thanks to their present resources, to find solutions on “how to become more effective in today’s conditions”. Expressed in general sense as the whole of entrepreneurial activities within the structure of businesses, Intrapreneurship plays an important role in following points: Allowing the employee to reveal entrepreneurial ideas, which will enable them in return to become prominent; Creating a new working area where the employee is satisfied, becomes productive and exerts extra effort; Leadership behaviors of managers. Basing on a survey conducted with 70 middle and upper-level managers from 13 businesses that operate in the food sector in Karaman, the goal of this study is to demonstrate the impact of Transactional and Transformational Leadership styles of managers and businesses’ internal and external environments on Intrapreneurship, the impact of Intrapreneurship & Transactional and Transformational Leadership on intrapreneurial employees’s satisfaction, their effort and efficiency as well. Firstly, it was identified that Transformational Leadership has a significant effect on Intrapreneurship in businesses that involved in this practice in line with the purpose of the present study. Secondly, it was confirmed that Intrapreneurship & Transformational Leadership have both a significant effect on the employee’s efficiency, satisfaction and extra effort as well. Finally, it was observed that only internal environment has a significant effect out of internal and external environments of businesses.
