Introduction to Metallic Biomaterials
Journal Title: Analele Universitatii "Dunarea de Jos" din Galati. Fascicula IX, Metalurgie si Stiinta Materialelor - Year 2017, Vol 40, Issue 3
Abstract
The paper presents a bibliographic study about the metallic biomaterials, synthesizing the aspects related to properties, applicability, obtaining methods. Biomaterials can be used as medical devices, implants and prostheses. The metallic biomaterials are classified, by chemical composition and structure, in: pure technical metals, metallic alloys and composites with metallic matrix. The material quality of an implant must respect the following criteria: biochemical criteria and biomechanical ones. According to the biochemical criterion, the applicability of a material is determined by its biocompatibility, and from the biochemical criteria, it is determined by the fatigue resistance, the most important parameter, but not the only one.

Characterization of Thick Hard Layers with Ni-Cr-B-Fe-Al Alloy Obtained by Laser Cladding
To increase the resistance to wear and corrosion of the surface layers made from steel with 0.45% C, multilayer deposition was tested by injection of powder with chemical composition of 8.9% Cr, 4.5% Fe, 5.1% B, 2, 4% Al...
Optimisation of Refractory Components of Sliding Gate Mechanism for Continuous Casting
New design techniques have been developed to optimize refractory components of sliding gate mechanism for continuous casting of steel. The overall objective is to increase CC productivity as well as steel quality by usin...
Some Considerations on Environmental Sand Cores with Inorganic Binder
Traditionally, complex sand cores are produced using organic binders such as phenolic and furan resins. These binders can create bad smelling fumes requiring complex and expensive ventilation equipment to fulfill environ...
Variation of Mechanical Characteristics for Thin Wall Tubes Processed in Ultrasonic Field
The paper presents the variation of mechanical characteristics of resistance and plasticity for thin wall tubes made of stainless steel 10TiNiCr180, processed in ultrasonic field. Decrease of mechanical characteristics o...
Effect of Heavy Metals on the Germination of Wheat Seeds: Enzymatic Assay
Stress caused by heavy metals is a major problem which affects agricultural productivity and, implicitly, human health. Natural flora presents differences of tolerance to heavy metals. Some plants grow well in a soil enr...
