INVECTIVE POTENTIAL OF PRECEDENT PHENOMENA

Abstract
The issues of linguistic expertise of disputable texts and invective potential of precedent phenomena are examined in the article. In linguistics, there are two main approaches to invective as a language phenomenon: wide and narrow. In the narrow sense, we talk about explicit, evident invective which is realized by means which every native speaker clearly perceives as invective. In the wide sense, invective is realized in close connection with the context and heavily relies on lexical-semantic criterion. It is crucial for expert practice in slander lawsuits to recognize the parameters of invective. Precedent phenomena have considerable invective potential and are often used when trying to insult the addressee of invective. Being formally an instrument of evaluation, being employed in a negative way precedent phenomena can damage one’s honour, dignity and reputation. Efficiency of such verbal act depends on presence/absence of common worldview of an addresser and an addressee of invective.
