INVESTIGATING SEASONAL FEATURES OF ELECTRON TEMPERATURE ENHANCEMENT REGIONS IN THE SUBAURORAL IONOSPHERE
Journal Title: Solar-Terrestrial Physics - Year 2019, Vol 5, Issue 1
Abstract
The electron temperature enhancement is known to occur in the main ionospheric trough during geomagnetic disturbances. In this paper, we study fea-tures of the formation of the electron temperature (Te) enhancement in the subauroral ionosphere by comparing results of the numerical simulation with measurements of Te onboard the CHAMP satellite under moderate geomagnetic activity conditions. It is shown that depending on the terminator position and universal time (UT), the location of the enhanced Te regions in the subauroral ionosphere varies in different seasons. So, in winter ring-shaped and sickle-shaped regions can be formed, whereas during the equinox and summer periods sickle-shaped regions of different lengths and clarity are generally observed.

CHARACTERISTICS OF DOUBLE SODIUM LAYER OVER HAIKOU, CHINA (20.0° N, 110.1° E)
We study the property of double sodium layer structures (DSLs) in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere (MLT) by a lidar at the low-latitude location of Haikou (20.0° N, 110.1° E), China. From April 2010 to December 2013...
ELECTROMAGNETIC ULF/ELF OSCILLATIONS CAUSED BY THE ERUPTION OF THE TONGA VOLCANO
The eruption of the Tonga volcano on January 13 and 15, 2022 and related intense lightning activity led to the excitation of a number of specific electromagnetic oscillations in different frequency ranges. We examine pro...
Estimated plasmasphere electron content and O⁺/H⁺ transition height during the February 2022 geomagnetic storm from Irkutsk IS radar data
We study the topside ionosphere above the NmF2 ionization maximum and the transition region between the ionosphere and the plasmasphere. We analyze the interaction between the topside ionosphere and the plasmasphere duri...
MUON INTENSITY VARIATIONS AND ATMOSPHERIC TEMPERATURE
Muons in the atmosphere are formed during the decay of pions resulting from nuclear interactions of cosmic rays with nuclei of air atoms. The resulting muons are also unstable particles with a short lifetime. Therefore,...
FEATURES OF SHORT-PERIOD VARIABILITY OF TOTAL ELECTRON CONTENT AT HIGH AND MIDDLE LATITUDES
The study presents the results of comparative analysis of features of a short-period (with periods of internal gravity waves) variability of total electron content (TEC) in the ionosphere at middle (Novosibirsk) and high...
