Investigating the most common problems after delivery of removable partial dentures Running title: complication on removable partial denture

Abstract
Background and Aims: Prosthodontics treatments are linked to different oral complaints such as speech, chewing, pain, esthetics etc. These complaints are varied between both removable partial and complete denture wearers. In this study, the most common problems after delivery of removable partial dentures and their causes in patients were investigated. Methods and Materials: In this cross - sectional study 80 patients were selected and their problems were evaluated in five categories by designed questionnaire: pain, mobility and relaxation, functional problems, cosmetic problems and other difficulties (Difficulty about tolerate of prosthesis). Data were analyzed by SPSS17 using Mann–Whitney U test (p <0.05). Results: The mean age of patients was 51.34±7.24 years old in the range of 36 to 63 years, 39 (48.08%) were male and 51(51.3%) were female. pain in the palate and throat while opening and closing the mouth, pain in the basic teeth, pain in the various sites of the mouth were significantly greater in pain categories ( p=0.033, p=0.01, p=0.005, p=0.005, respectively). The mobility and the lack of adequate fixation was also higher (P<0.001) in relation to mobility and relaxation categories. The difficulty in eating and speaking was significantly higher (P=0.033, P=0.046 respectively). Most of the patients were satisfied with the shape and cosmetic aspects of the dentures (p=0.033, p<0.001, p=0.026 respectively). Conclusion: most of the problems with partial dentures were the pain in the palate and throat, opening and closing of the mouth, pain in the basic teeth, pain in the various sites of the mouth, difficulty in eating and speaking and the lack of adequate fixation.
