Investigation of the capability of a Numerical model to simulate a Mining Pit in River Bed
Journal Title: Journal of River Engineering - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
Rivers are the most essential source of aggregates for civil works such as construction of roads, canals, concrete buildings and many other construction purposes. However, the improper mining of sand and gravel from bed rivers may cause significant damage to them in terms of mass bank failure, channel bed erosion. In this research, because of the widespread use of numerical models in different types of hydraulic problems, the variation of the packed bed river profile due to digging a trapezoidal pit in the bed river is analyzed by a leading numerical model. the simulation data is compared with the measured value and the result is discussed and the reason why the numerical model was almost unsuccessful to simulate this phenomenon is discussed. The objective of this research is to investigate limitation of a particular CFD model by comparison of its results with the experimental data. finally other related numerical models is introduced and.

The Effect of Semi-circular Side Weirs on Hydraulic Properties and Discharge Coefficient of Side Weirs
Side weir is one of the most common hydraulic structures, which is used as a deviatory structure in rivers, irrigation and drainage channels and also in urban sewage collection systems.Semi-circular side weir can be a...
Laboratory Investigation of Environmental Friendly Fishway for Rubber Dams
Since they serve important roles in fish migration and survival, the fishway are the main components of river cross structures like dams. Recent years have witnessed an amalgamation of researches and development of ru...
Dam Break Modeling for Large Earth and Rock-fill Dams
Dam break analysis plays a very important role in the risk assessment of dams. Large dams pose significantly higher risks to the people and property downstream of the dam as compared to smaller dams. So the flooding r...
Control of Local Scour around Bridge Pier Groups Using Geotextile Armored soil
In this paper, reduction of scour around group of two and three piers using geotextile layer has been carried out for the case of clear-water flow over uniform sediment. The results reveal that geotextile layer has a...
Experimental Study of the Shear Stress Effect on the Deposition Process of the Cohesive Sediments
Describing the behavior of cohesive sediments is so complicated; and the flocculation of these sediments increases the amount of sedimentation.Cohesive sediments are characterized as a mixture of predominantly clay an...
