Iran’s Security Strategies in Syria

Journal Title: Bölgesel Araştırmalar Dergisi - Year 2018, Vol 2, Issue 1

Abstract

Security is the situation which refers to the lack of any threat to the values of states may have. Securitization is actualized in the way that the world countries, valuing certain reference objects in foreign policy, entrenches in people’s mind that it is an obligation or a duty to protect the relevant objects. In this context, Iran has explicitly defended the Damascus regime by securitizing Syria especially through the phenomena of “Islamic Revolution”, “holy shires” and “national independence/anti-Western and Foreign intervention agenda” after the 2011 Arab Spring. Iran’s security strategies in Syria has begun to depend on unconventional and asymmetric warfare methods.
