Irony as A Social Criticism Method in Abay Kunanbayev’s Work Named ‘Nasihatler

Abstract
In order to develop, societies have to renew themselves according to the needs of the different times. Social change can sometimes occur in a regression and distortion way instead of development. In such a case, persons who are aware of the unchanging values which provides development and who can lead societies struggle to move society from the direction of regression and deterioration to the direction of development with their recommendations, proposals and finally with their criticism. Abay Kunanbayev is an example personality both for Turkish world and for the whole humanity. At that time, he wasn’t indifferent to the social problems that were experienced. To move humanity to the point where they should be again, he diagnoses the problems. He criticizes the reasons in a realistic and neutral attitude. Especially in his prose work named ‘Kara Sözler-Nasihatler’, he prefers the irony as a criticism method.
