Isolation and characterization of Streptomycetes with plant growth promoting potential from mangrove ecosystem
Journal Title: Polish Journal of Microbiology - Year 2015, Vol 64, Issue 4
Abstract
A total of 66 actinomycetes isolates were isolated from mangroves of Andhra Pradesh, India, using various enrichment techniques and pre-treatments. The samples were collected from Coringa mangrove ecosystem and pre-treated by enrichment with CaCO[sub]3[/sub], sodium dodecyl sulphate and phenol, plated on the media supplemented with cycloheximide (50mg/mL), nystatin (25mg/mL) and nalidixic acid (50mg/mL). The population count of actinomycetes fluctuated from 19x10[sup]4 [/sup]to 80x10[sup]4[/sup] g soil[sup]-1[/sup]. Out of the isolated 66 actinomycetes, 8 isolates possessing plant growth promoting potential were further studied and characterized by physiological, biochemical traits and identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing as different species of Streptomycetes genera.

PCR Detection of Scopulariopsis brevicaulis
Scopulariopsis brevicaulis is known as a most common etiological factor of the mould toenail infections. There are also reports indicating that S. brevicaulis could cause organ and disseminated infections....
Characterization of Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec (SCCmec) in Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis Strains Isolated from Biomaterial-Associated Infections and their Antibiotic Resistance Patterns
This work aims to provide an insight into staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec elements and antibiotic resistance in clinical isolates of Staphylococcus epidermidis. The dominating type was SCCmec...
Intracellular Siderophore Detection in an Egyptian, Cobalt-Treated F. solani Isolate Using SEM-EDX with Reference to its Tolerance
An Egyptian, plant pathogenic Fusarium solani isolate was grown on cobalt concentrations of 0, 50, 200, 500, 800, and 1000 ppm. The isolate survived concentrations up to 800 ppm, however failed to grow at 1000 ppm. Morph...
Virus Like Particles as Immunogens and Universal Nanocarriers
Over the last two decades virus-like particles (VLPs) have become an important tool in biomedical research and medicine. VLPs are multiprotein structures that resemble viable virus particles in conformation but lack the...
Recombinant MAG1 Protein of Toxoplasma gondii as a Diagnostic Antigen
The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential diagnostic usefulness of the full-length recombinant Toxoplasma gondii MAG1 protein by determining the levels of specific IgM and I...
