ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF FLAVONOIDS FROM PROSOPIS CINERARIA

Journal Title: Mintage journal of pharmaceutical and medical sciences - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 2

Abstract

Objective: Prosopis cineraria is a tree of remarkable importance and a rich source of secondary metabolites. The present study was carried out to investigate the flavonoid content present in the leaves, stem and pods of Prosopis cineraria. Methods: The method of Subramanian & Nagarajan, 1969 was used for isolation of flavonoids. The structure of the isolated compounds was established on the basis of physical and chemical test and spectroscopic evidences (TLC, IR and GC- MS). Results: The study showed that the three types of flavonoids Quercetin, Kaempferol and Luteolin were found. Out of these three, quercetin was found as major flavonoid and Kaempferol and luteolin were found as minor flavonoid. Conclusions: The present flavonoids may be responsible for various activities found in this plant, like- Antioxidant activity, anti-microbial activity etc.
