Issues of reconstruction the clothes based on results of archaeological textile research
Journal Title: Поволжская Археология - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 13
Abstract
Certain methodical issues of medieval clothes reconstruction based upon the study of textile fabrics from of the Golden Horde and Rus’ archaeological sites are analyzed in the article. The necessity of the research arises from the fact that at present the trend of historical reconstructions is being actively developed as a direct extension of experimental archaeology. The article analyzes published results of several clothes reconstructions and reveals typical misinterpretations committed in the process. The misinterpretations are due to both the fragmentary condition of textile fabrics excavated and the subjective factor manifested by the tendency to be guided by analogies and one’s own conceptions rather than the actual facts.
