Istimdâd in Tafsir: Sciences which Tafsir is in Relation with in Classical Period

Abstract
After the revelation of the Qur'an, since many people from different cultures and places, converted to Islam, the process of interpreting the Qur’an started to be made in a more systematically way. Because Qur’an as the subject of Tafsir is firstly an utterance/kalâm, this situation had required Tafsir to be continued on the basis of some datum. As a matter of fact, both predecessor scholars and exegetes have stipulated that one must to know some informations for interpretation since the early periods of Islam. While mentioning Tafsir’s relationship with other sciences, the Word of istimdâd is used. In this sense several approaches have become to apeear in time. In this study, it will be detected chronologically that which sciences exegetes consider necessary for Tafsir and what kind of different approaches they put forward. The chronological research of this issue will enable us to determine how sciences used by Tafsir could differentiate according to exegetes over time. Lastly, sciences that we detected will be evaluated in terms of function of Tafsir.
