ISTP SB RAS DECAMETER RADARS
Journal Title: Solar-Terrestrial Physics - Year 2020, Vol 6, Issue 2
Abstract
Under the project National Heliogeophysical Complex of the Russian Academy of Sciences, it is planned to create several coherent decameter radars. ISTP SB RAS developed a network of coherent decameter radars well before the start of financing this project. This has provided extensive experience in operating such radars, has enabled us to identify their technological problems, which should be solved when creating radars of own design, and to develop a project of radars with broader capabilities for diagnostics of the ionosphere as compared to existing radars of similar types. The paper analyzes the existing EKB ISTP SB RAS radar, reviews its technological problems, and proposes the structure of a new radar of SECIRA type. We report the results of prototyping of elements of the SECIRA radar, which demonstrate the possibility of its implementation. We discuss the potential applicability of the radar to ionospheric studies on the territory of the Russian Federation, in particular in high-latitude regions.

COMPARISON OF GROUND-BASED AND SATELLITE DATA ON SPATIOTEMPORAL DISTRIBUTION OF LIGHTNING DISCHARGES UNDER SOLAR MINIMUM
Worldwide maps of lightning activity have been obtained from the ground-based World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) for 2007–2009. We have compiled these maps separately for different seasons and UT periods, usin...
METHOD OF AUTOMATIC CORRECTION OF NEUTRON MONITOR DATA FOR PRECIPITATION IN THE FORM OF SNOW IN REAL TIME
We have carried out an experimental study of the influence of precipitation in the form of snow on measurements of the neutron flux intensity near Earth's surface. We have examined the state of the snow cover and its den...
GEOMETRIC FACTOR IN SEASONAL VARIATIONS OF DAILY AVERAGE VALUES OF THE GEOMAGNETIC INDEX Dₛₜ
The work uses data on the geomagnetic index Dst for the period 1966–2015. Under quiet conditions, the occurrence of seasonal variations of the daily average Dst index depends on geometric factors of the interaction betwe...
STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT ESTIMATES OF INFLUENCE OF SOLAR ACTIVITY ON PLANETARY WAVES IN THE MIDDLE ATMOSPHERE OF THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE AS DERIVED FROM MUAM MODEL DATA
Numerical simulation has been used to examine the effect of changes in solar activity (SA) in the thermosphere on amplitudes of long-period planetary waves (PW) for the winter period in the Northern Hemisphere. The model...
OFFSETS IN THE GEOMAGNETIC INDICES OF THE MAGNETOSPHERIC RING CURRENT
The paper considers changes in the daily average values of the Dst, SYM-H, ASY-H, and ASY-D indices and their dependence on the level of magnetic disturbance for the period 1981–2016. These indices are geomagnetic charac...
