Journey to the Unknown: The Case of a Person with Suppressed HIV

Abstract

This qualitative case study seeks to describe in -;depth the direct experiences, struggles, emotions, and thoughts that have streamed through the mind of person having human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) a life-threatening condition. A descriptive analysis is utilized with varied tools to evaluate the demographic profile, experiences, opinions, conditions, and of the purposively chosen participant. This study aims to uncover problems that can be addressed, identify contributing factors that led to this asymptomatic or undetected status and see the major changes that transpired in his life. This study was conducted in Cebu City, 2019. The supervisor of the informant, his brother and doctor were also interviewed to cross-check the trustworthiness of the responses of the participant. This study extracted the following themes: (1) innocent stage, (2) disturbed childhood, (3) emotional road to recovery and survival and (4) determination to rebuild and to inspire. The results showed that socio-parental guidance, community, experience, curiosity, and education are contributing factors of nurturing the holistic formation of the Person Living with HIV (PLWH). The determination to move on and rebuild one's life makes PLWH an inspiration and role model to other PLWHAs.
