KİŞİLİK ÖZELLİKLERİ İLE GİRİŞİMCİLİK EĞİLİMİ ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİ: SÜLEYMAN DEMİREL ÜNİVERSİTESİ ÖĞRENCİLERİ ÜZERİNE BİR ARAŞTIRMA

Abstract

EXTENDED SUMMARY Research Problem: The purpose of the study was to explore the relationship between personality traits and their entrepreneurial tendency of students who has been participating entrepreneurship course at Isparta Süleyman Demirel University Research Questions: In this study, in which entrepreneurship tendencies were determined according to the perceptions and personality traits of the students who were studying at Süleyman Demirel University and participating entrepreneurship courses, it was questioned whether the tendencies of entrepreneurship differed according to the personality traits, sexes, ages and faculties of the students. Literature Review: The purpose of the literature review was to use a two-part framework to examine Personal Traits and Entrepreneurship Tendency. In this context, Five Factor Personality Traits has been mentioned. The five-factor model of personality traits (FFM) is a set of five broad trait dimensions or domains, often referred to as the “Big Five”. The Big Five/FFM- The five-factor model of personality was developed to represent as much of the variability in individuals’ personalities as possible, using only a small set of trait dimensions. The Big Five are: Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism (sometimes named by its polar opposite, Emotional Stability), and Openness to Experience (sometimes named Intellect). Additionally, the concept of entrepreneurship, the importance of entrepreneurship, factors affecting entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship tendency has been mentioned. Methodology: The universe of the research is the 800 undergraduate students who take the entrepreneurship course in Isparta Süleyman Demirel University. Data collection was carried out in the fall of 2016-2017. The sample of the research is 647 students who were created with the participation of 12 all faculty students at university. The surveyed faculties; Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Communication, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Fisheries, Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Forestry. Survey method was used as data collection method in the study. The questionnaire used to determine entrepreneurship and personality characteristics consists of 3 parts. In the first section questions about personality traits, in the second section questions about the tendency of entrepreneurship and in the third section questions about demographic characteristics. In the first part of the questionnaire, the Five Factor Personality Dimensions measured in order to measure the personality traits of the participants were John Berkeley Personality Laboratory John & Srivastava (1999); The Big Five Inventory scale developed by John & Naumann & Soto (2008) was used. Five dimensions, including "The Big Five Inventory" scale, Extraversion dimension (8 expressions), Compatibility dimension (9 expressions), Self-discipline dimension (9 expressions), Neuroticism dimension (8 expressions) 'li likert type (1 = Absolutely disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Neither agree nor disagree, 4 = Agree, 5 = Absolutely agree) In the second part of the questionnaire, developed by Prof. Dr. Ali Murat Sünbül and Assoc. Dr. Ercan Yılmaz and published in the Journal of Selcuk University Institute of Social Sciences were used. There are 36 questions on the questionnaire with 5 likert scale. Converted into a likert type form, these sentences are arranged in the form of a 5-point intermittent scale ranging from "Very often" (5) to "Never" (1). The scale consists of one sub-dimension. The third part of the questionnaire contains demographic information. In this part of the questionnaire, demographic characteristics, gender, marital status, faculty and class, age, family income, monthly income, whether or not there is an established work, how parents and children own own work, how many siblings are, questions such as the educational status of the parents, the profession of the parents, the reasons for the entrepreneurship after the graduation and the reasons for not wanting to work, the fact that they have worked in any place previously. Results and Conclusions: In this study, the relationship between personality traits of students and entrepreneurship tendencies was examined. It is observed that Extraversion, Agreeableness, Openness to Experience, Self-discipline personality traits have a positive effect on the entrepreneurial tendency while neuroticism personality trait has negatively influenced on the entrepreneurial tendency. Also, wieved whether entrepreneurial tendencies have differentiated according to the students' faculties, sexes, marital status and where they have spent their childhood years but no differentiation has been detected.
