"Kładą te figurki na dłonie i rzucają je w górę..." - o polskiej tradycyjnej grze w bierki i odkrywaniu jej wartości

Abstract
Since Ancient times the games and plays have played an important part in human life, but their scientific and social significance has gain attention only at the end of the 20th century. They have been finally recognized as source containing elements of cultural heritage – it was ignored before by the „scientific spheres world”. Their extraordinary cognitive values allows a deep analysis of the multiple elements of culture. Gradually the use of games and plays, was recognized as essential tool for education, sensory integration therapy, cultural integration, etc. This article discusses traditional Polish game called Bierki, which history dates from the middle of the nineteenth century. Authors present the historical outline, the cultural context, variations and the unique character of the game which makes it an interesting object of academic research. In addition they present an attempt of its reconstruction. In the authors’ view, the game Bierki can be treated as starting point for a further deepening of cultural awareness and promoting rich knowledge about traditional Polish games and plays. Thanks to the living tradition, the games and plays can act as transfer of health, social and cultural values.
