Abstract
The article deals with the theoretical foundations of the knowledge economy and the systematization of different views on this concept. It is analyzed the impact of the knowledge economy on the development of the “center” and “core-periphery” EU countries. The features of the knowledge economy are formulated. It is determined the importance of knowledge economy building for improving competitiveness.
