Knowledge of 4th–6th graders in the field of first aid

Abstract

The work presents the results of research concerning the knowledge of pupils in the field of first aid at the second stage of education. It presents the concepts and essence of first aid as well as its main goals, knowledge of the rules in this area as well as the ability to perform basic resuscitation activities. Selected rules for providing first aid are described, as well as methods of resuscitation for an adult and a child. It was presented how school prepares its pupils for conducting first aid, what education goals for safety are written in the core curriculum – the subject pursued at the second stage of education. A short analysis of the content of selected textbooks and curricula in the field of first aid in primary schools was made. In addition, the research methodology is presented: methodological assumptions, the research goal, the main problem assumed, the main hypothesis and detailed hypotheses were formulated. The conclusion contains final work findings deriving from the analysis of the research conducted in selected primary schools.
