Abstract
Commanding officer and lieutenant Henryk Cybulski (1910-1971) during Volhynia events in 1940-1944 and post-war period The article presents Henryk Cybulski – the leader of the most important Volhynia self-defence centre against Ukrainian nationalists attacks. He was managed to save Przedbraże region what contributed to salvation of thousands Polish civilians. The figure of Cybulski is shown against the background of the mass extermination of Polish people committed by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) during Volhynian slaughter in the forties (especially in the period from February 1943 to February 1944) and in the context of the conspiracy of silence towards this subject sustained for many years.
