LANGUAGE AND STYLE IN HISTORICAL MEDICAL TEXTS

Abstract

Each work has its own language material. This language material writers and poets enrich their own style. For this reason, the language and stylistic features of each study emerge in a different way. This is also the case for historical medical texts. Physicians have discussed the issues they have learned with the knowledge and experience they have acquired. In these works, many different elements are revealed and similar features are observed. Ottoman period medical works appear as works of copyright and translation. The contents of the medicine works mainly include pharmaceuticals, medications, and explanations on how to use them in various treatments. Since the subject is the same, it is natural that the common points are too common. Medical texts from the 14th to the 19th century; lexicography, semantics, sentax, morphology, etc. has a rich language material. This richness has laid the ground for researchers to be interested in historical medical texts. In this study, the answer to the question of how the medical texts of the Ottoman period were addressed. Some of the medical texts written/translated in different centuries were examined, the result was evaluated under different headings. Samples are listed for each title. The contribution of these studies to the vocabulary of Turkish has been put forward.
