LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY IN PATIENT WITH SITUS INVERSUS: ANAESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS
Journal Title: Journal of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences - Year 2019, Vol 5, Issue 1
Abstract
Abstract: Incidence of Situs inversus, rare condition is 1 in 10,0002. In a patient with situs inversus, anaesthetic management becomes challenging due to anatomical abnormalities and transposition of thoraco-abdominal viscersa. We are reporting a patient who had situs inversus with dextrocardia and was posted for laproscopic cholecystectomy. The present case report emphasize on various difficulties during anaesthetic management and its various implications and highlight the diagnostic dilemma posed due to visceral malrotation. Introduction: Situs inversus is one of the rare congenital disorders in which, a 270 degree clockwise rotation occurs instead of normal 270 degree anti‑clockwise rotation of the developing thoraco‑abdominal organs during embryological development1. It results in mirror image positioning of the abdominal and thoracic viscera. Situs inversus is not pathological but is known to be associated with various syndromes such as Kartagener's syndrome, cardiac anomalies, spleen malformations and anesthesiologist faces challenges due to such clinical entities.
