Large cerebello-pontine angle tumor in pregnancy – case report

Journal Title: Annales Academiae Medicae Silesiensis - Year 2014, Vol 68, Issue 5

Abstract

A large cerebello-pontine angle tumor in pregnancy is a rare illness which is a challenge for neurosurgeons, obstetricians and anesthesiologists. The urgent treatment of the life-threatening obstructive hydrocephalus has in these cases its own specificity. Postponement of tumor resection after child delivery is considered optimal. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a large cerebello-pontine angle tumor on the left side in a 31-year-old woman with worsening of vision in the 19th week of pregnancy. Due to the progressing obstructive hydrocephalus, third venrticulostomy and then cerebrospinal fluid diversion were done. A cesarean section was performed as the fetus was sufficiently developed for delivery. Then uneventful neurosurgical complete evacuation of the tumor was performed. The patient was followed up for 2 years.
