LEADING MOTIVES AND COM POSITION OF OLES HONCHAR’S COMPILATION «YAPONSKI ETIUDY »

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of Oles Honchar’s essay collection «Yaponski etiudy» («Japanese sketches»), which had not been analysed yet as an integrally whole literary creation. It is proven that the collection’s integrity is based on mutual basement of its motives. There is an analysis of Japan’s image in the book, rationale of its writer’s publicist nature. The collection’s composition analysis conveys the suggestion that it is essayistic. It includes different forms and discourse styles (description, contemplation, narrative) that tightly coexist by flowing into each other. As it is known, essay is oriented not at the description of a real fact and not even at the thought that had been caused by this fact, but rather at the modelling of an autonomous reality — the world of a pervasive individual self. Essayistic phenomenon always touches upon a number of questions connected with a certain innovation of something that had already been known, with construction of something new, with the individual understanding of the reality, understanding that is shown through the achieved integrity of a new image. Essayistic form functions according to the laws of artistic form, as an essence that is in the state of constant self-reproach and realizes the absolute need of the content to be not only a thought-fact, but also an opportunity for the reality to go through the creator. The inner integrated structure of the work has various existing types of values, and makes them a part of its content. However, it also prevails above them, by absorbing them and recreating in its organization the principles of various valuable orders (social, historical, cultural), while making them its own principles of writer’s publicist structure. It becomes evident in «Yaponski etiudy» («Japanese sketches»), both on the level of separate works and the book as a whole, in which the world picture becomes visible based on the comprehension of different layers of author’s conscience — social, historical, cultural and, of course, philosophical. Structural analysis of episode and fragment combination in «Yaponski etiudy» («Japanese sketches») proves it, because images set in each of them give a basis for the assumption that it is the act of unification and their reflexive processing.
