Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2023, Vol 10, Issue 9
Abstract
The study aimed to investigate the Grade 9 learning task performance in Science under modular instruction: a simplification. Specifically, it aimed to answer the Grade 9 learning tasks performance in science under the modular instruction in terms of written tasks, and performance tasks; the challenges of learners in accomplishing the learning tasks in Science as perceived by the teacher, and learners and the strategies that respond to the challenges of learners in accomplishing the learning tasks. A simplified learning tasks for Grade 9 Science was developed by the researcher as research output. The Grade 9 learning tasks performance in science under the modular instruction in terms of written tasks revealed an overall descriptive rating of did not expectations. The challenges of learners in accomplishing the learning tasks in Science as perceived by Science teacher, difficulty in independent learning; and lack of talent in performing the tasks were always identified by the respondents. The items sometimes identified as challenges in accomplishing the learning tasks in science perceived by learners were difficulty in independent learning, trouble managing anxiety in doing the learning tasks. Strategies that respond to the challenges of learners in accomplishing the learning tasks as identified by the learners were leniency of teachers in the submission of students' outputs; learning activities are reduced/lessen activities in the modules, while the unnecessary exercises are removed; and science teacher resorted to simplifying and localizing of Learning Activity Sheets, instructional materials/ and experiments in science. This research used the quantitative type of research. Under the quantitative research method, the descriptive type of research was used. The researcher used the frequency, percentage, mean, weighted mean, t-test, and the analysis of variance as statistical tools in this study.
