LEGAL ASPECTS OF ORGANIZING LENT RETREAT IN THE CONTEXT OF SCHOOL FUNCTIONING

Abstract
In the case of schools and educational institutions students' attendance in Lent retreat is one of key elements of religious instruction. In accordance with the government order issued by the Minister of National Education on 14 April 1992 regarding provisions for religious education in state schools (Journal of Laws, No. 36, item 155 with later amendments) students attending schools and other educational institutions are granted three days off school so that they can take part in Lent retreat. During this time religious instruction teachers are responsible for students. Lent retreat is not time off work for teachers. During Lent retreat various tasks can be assigned to teachers by the school's principal. It is worth noting that the practice of running shortened classes during Lent retreat is becoming more and more common. However, it must pointed out that such a solution has no legal basis.
